We warmly invite you to the exhibition by Andrea Baštýřová: Rest on the Stairs with Stars.

The exhibition runs until 12 April 2026 and is freely accessible during the opening hours of Bistro & Bar Jatek78 (Mon–Fri 10:00–23:00; Sat–Sun – when performances are scheduled, we open 90 minutes before the start).

The exhibition forms part of the accompanying programme marking the final performances of R.I.E. (Rest in Euphoria) by Cirk La Putyka at Jatka78.

Andrea Baštýřová’s exhibition Rest on the Stairs with Stars and the performance R.I.E. – Rest in Euphoria by Cirk La Putyka engage with themes of the body, imagination and space. Both works explore how material and corporeal forms become a medium for expressing emotion, drawing the viewer into the centre of the experience and allowing them to fully inhabit the present moment.

Baštýřová transforms classical sculptural groupings into soft textile sculptures – bizarre, grotesque, at times playfully monstrous creatures. These then become a source of inspiration for her drawings and paintings, opening up new perspectives and associations. The transition between media is not merely a technical experiment, but a means of capturing process, movement and the object’s constant transformation.

A similar attentiveness to process, space and the body can be found in R.I.E., where the audience enters a cabaret-like world of acrobatics, music and dance. The tiered stage symbolises a journey towards euphoria, and each movement of the performers transmits energy into the auditorium. Nudity, physical presence and rhythm create a tension between calm and explosion, intimacy and playfulness.

At the core of both projects stands the body – whether as the soft, deformed object of a plush sculpture or as the physical instrument of the acrobat – connecting form, emotion and space. Both works draw on grotesque, absurd and bizarre aesthetics. Baštýřová’s fabric creatures, alongside the opulent costumes and scenography of the performance, question norms of beauty and reality, immersing the viewer in an active experience where humour, decadence and imagination create a space of freedom. In today’s world, marked by constraints, pressures and uncertainty, this freedom emerges as a fundamental value that must be rediscovered, protected and lived.

Andrea Baštýřová (*1990, née Lédlová) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague between 2011 and 2017 in the Drawing Studio led by Jiří Petrbok, and completed internships in Painting Studio II (Vladimír Skrepl) and Sculpture Studio III (Lukáš Rittstein). In 2015 she received third prize in the Critics’ Award for Young Painting, and in 2017 she was a finalist for the EXIT Award.
